Psychedelic Preparation and Integration

What is psychedelic medicine?

SERVICES

Psychedelic medicine is any psychedelic substance that is used with the intention of enabling healing. Psychedelic medicine can be chemical compounds made in a lab (such as MDMA, LSD and Ketamine) or derived from plants (such as psilocybin in mushrooms and DMT in ayahuasca and mescaline). The latter of which is often referred to as plant medicine.

Psychedelics have been used for healing for centuries. Western science began to recognise the healing properties of psychedelics in the 1950s. However, progress was interrupted in the 1970s when the US government classified all psychedelics as ‘drugs of abuse’ with no recognised medical value. The UK and other countries soon followed suit.

In a recent revival of controlled clinical studies, the positive outcomes of treatment for addiction, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have led the US government to make a
U-turn. A growing number of states in the US have legalised the medicinal use of cannabis, psilocybin and MDMA. A reemergence of clinical trials in the UK and worldwide give hope that the healing properties of psychedelics may soon be available to all who may benefit from them.

Why psychedelics?

Recent studies bring to light what makes psychedelics such an effective healing agent. The psychedelic experience gets to the heart of the issues that make us feel stuck, unable to change or to move forward. Psychedelics unlock old neurological patterns and open up new ways of thinking, resulting in lasting positive emotional and behavioural changes.

Many people fly to South America for traditional psychedelic medicines where shamans have been holding ceremonies for thousands of years. However, the tradition of healing has changed. Originally, the entire community, both shamans and tribe members, were involved in the preparation, the psychedelic ceremonies and the integration of the patient's healing.

In modern times, we might fly into the jungle for a few days, have a ceremony and fly out shortly after.
Or we might visit a clinic or a retreat centre for the medicine. Then we step back into our old lives where often those around us are unaware of the best ways to support our healing. Friends and family relate to us in the ways they always have. It is easy to fall back into our old patterns of being. This is why therapeutic support after taking psychedelic medicine is very important.

Journey

A TRANSFORMATIVE

PROGRAMME

THERAPEUTIC

Many people have profoundly positive experiences with psychedelics. However, ceremonies, psychedelic medicines and their distributors are unregulated outside of clinical trials. So preparation, settings and aftercare vary greatly. As a result, some people have negative experiences. Even when all the aspects of the psychedelic setting are safe and supportive, a psychedelic experience can sometimes be challenging. When negative experiences cause issues long past the psychedelic journey, Neu Practice can support you.

At Neu Practice, we offer mind-body based treatments and neuro-processing interventions that facilitate integration of adverse experiences, helping you transform your negative journey into an opportunity for learning and transformation.

What Neu Practice offers
